I wrote almost same thing in the previous blog...
I decided to write about this before, but I didn't remember that I already wrote about this 2 weeks ago...
I'll try to write another one then.

Poster presentation

On our CM class, we did a poster presentation. My topic was "diseased kidney transplantaion".
This was aslo my first essay's topic.

I interviewed some questions to my relatives and friends. I was interested in the answer between Japanese college student and American college student.
I asked the question "Do you want to provide your diseased kidney if there is a possibility for other patient to recover with that kidney?" Japanese student of mine answered "Yes", and the American student answered "No". According to her, there is some possibility for her to be sued when the patient become ill after the kidney transplantation even if the patient made a promise with her that he/she will not sue her. Since in the United States, There are much more possibility to be sued compared to Japan, her answer was NO. When I came up with this interview question, I did not assume about the sue. Therefore I was surprised by her reason for the answer. This can be one of cultural difference.

Interview to a student from the states

To present a poster presentation, I interviewed to some people around me.
It was a surprise for me to have a interview wth a student from the states, for a reason as follows:

I asked a question that " If you are taken out your diseased kidney, do you provide it to other patient who want to have kidney transplantation?"to my Dorm mate from the states.
Before the interview, I gave her information that 42 out of 42 case of surgery that Dr. Mannami treated had no problem to the kidney after the transplantation.

I was surprised because I thought she would agree with the diseased kidney transplantation since this method seemed more accepted in the Instates for me, but it was totally wrong. She said, suppose she provides a diseased kidney to other patient and some disease developed to the kidney after the transplantation to the patient. In that case, even if the patient and she have contractual agreements that not to sue her, there is a still chance for her to be sued. Therefore, she said she won’t provide her diseased kidney in any case. While most of Japanese interviewee answered that they will provide their diseased kidney to other, her reason for the answer made me surprised because I haven’t even assume the possibility of lawsuit. This may be a cultural difference.

Interview

In the last CM class, we practiced to do the interview.The interview question was "If you could genetically engineer your child, would you do so? and why?"

I interviewed to Mio, and her answer was "No". Her reason for this answer was that because it was unmoral. She said however there is a chance to avoid desease, she wouldn't prefer to choose her child. She said she would love her child no matter how much her child had defects. She also said that if we allow engineering genes at this level, we will have to allow more genitic engineering. According to her, since it's difficult to decide where to stop, we should not allow all the genetic engineering.

In my opinion, I would choose to engineer the gene if I had choices, in order to avoid deseases. Same as Mio, I would love my child no matter he/she had defects, but I want my child to be healthy as much as possible.
However my preference is different with Mio, I agree to her idea that it'll be difficult to decide the line. The development of technologies require to consider a lot of problems.

My interest in Bioethics

I'm interested in cloning, reprogenetics, organ donation, etc. The issues that relate to humans.

When considering the balance between the development of technologies and the harm, it is difficult to decide which is better or worse. But the time may come when we have to decide our posision. By this winter term project, I would like to consider these issues deeply to be close to the better solution.
